An independent release, Got It Made manifest as a true tale of resiliency.

Embodying the spirit of East Oakland, Kamaiyah is authenticity and vigor on display. Newly departed from Interscope Records, the rapper is commanding control over her career, releasing Got It Made under her new independent label GRND.WRK, a partnership with Empire.

While Got It Made is rooted in Kamaiyah’s 90’s west coast sound, the lyrical content is revamped, proving she has bars. This is best affirmed on anthem tracks “Set It Up”, “Still I Am” and “Pressure”, as she reclaims her power as both an artist and a woman.

Empowering sentiment aside, Got It Made also pays homage to the Bay Area, enlisting natives DJ J. ESPINOSA and Capolow on melodic records “Get Ratchet” and “Digits”. The rapper also brings out Oakland legend, Too $hort, for an energetic interpolation on “1–800-IM-HORNY”.

In the era of homogenous hip-hop, Kamaiyah is a best-in-class example of how to couple individuality with reinvention, making her one to watch in 2020.
